This word’s meaning goes back a long way and simply means that you are under a spell. It is the witches who had the power to cast spells on people and they would do this for a small fee, so that everybody was satisfied. The obvious one was from a young person, who wished for the amorous attentions of their chosen lover, who was not responding or indeed may not have noticed. As an example of this, Shakespeare used it in his famous play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In the play Titania, who is the Queen of the Fairies, had some droplets sprinkled over her eyes while she was asleep, so that she falls in love with the first thing she sees on waking, which happens to be a donkey. She was bewitched.
It is not always necessary to employ the services of a witch, as it is happening all the time in this modern world. The gullible and lonely are courted on dating websites by cunning and extremely plausible men, who soon profess their love for the gullible lady, who is asked to send money for a plausible sob story and when they have given away their life savings, these dishonorable men disappear. The ladies are bewitched and are satisfied with never actually meeting their scammer but believe all they are told. They often receive a photograph and even a red rose but are doomed never to meet and to be the poorer for their bewitching experience.
The understanding of the difference between givers and takers is relevant here. It is the givers who are made to feel uncomfortable if they don’t agree to giving in to the bewitching of the takers. They do not need to do anything except to recognize the tactics of the takers, who are only in for what they want and will come back for more every time they are successful. A giver has to learn to recognize the taker, often a member of their own family or worse still they are in a relationship with one. They will take on demand whatever they want from anybody they come across and will continue the relationship until they no longer get what they want, or a better meal ticket comes along. Never let a taker in your life.
Being bewitched is to lose your own character and to act out of reason. It is as though someone else is pulling the strings and you cannot see what everybody else can see. You are taken advantage of on a regular basis and seem to have no understanding of the fact. It is not you that is being unreasonable to refuse to give but the taker pressurizing you to get what they want without giving anything in return. The sooner that the giver understands what is happening, the sooner they need to break their ties with the taker. They need to feel nothing but relief when their lives return to normal, but it is sensible to count the cost of their folly in accepting the bewitching energies of negativity that they allowed in their lives.
