Powerless

To be without power to have any influence in matters, it is to be without any strength to hold sway.  It may be that one may not have any influence, or it may be that influence has been lost and any influence that we had is now gone.  In any case what is left is of no use.  What caused the loss of power is irrelevant.  The fact is that one is left without enough sway to matters any more.  The power has gone!  Never to return unless strength comes again from another source.

During the Middle Ages. The power of the Church was mighty indeed, but it left any competition powerless against it.  The Inquisition took power from the people by excommunicating all who were thought to have any power against the might of the Church, who were afraid of women as having strange powers through the lust of their bodies and having the Spiritual power of wisdom.  They could be healing with herbs and the power of Spiritual healing caused the Church much discomfort.  Here women were said to have witchcraft.  Many were drowned or burned to be saved from their devilish practices.

Women were powerless and the almighty Church removed them from their rightful place as equals to men.  This became an unequal world where men and women together were a Spiritual gift to each other as equals.  They were frightened by the power of the Spirit, which brought in balance and harmony in their relationships.  It had long been understood that the female had greater power than male.  They could and did create life and give birth to new beings.  The male had only a moments glory in the happening, which the Church saw as sinful.

To be powerless in Spiritual terms is to allow God’s will to be done ahead of the freewill that was God’s gift. As a right to put the righteousness of the Creator before one’s own self was an act of great faith and trust that was given back to God in doing his will for the greater good.  In fact, by returning one’s own power and strength to the Higher Source didn’t make one powerless but enhanced one to replace earthly power for Spiritual power and be able to serve in a greater way and, as the Lord’s Prayer reminds us to let His will be done.  In God’s eyes we are not powerless but given His strength to achieve great things.
