Who Is My Neighbour?

They are most likely to be Christian, Jews or Muslims.  They breathe the same air and take their own space.  Do they wear a mask and practice social distancing or simply pass by on the other side?  The best help that they can be is to keep their distance and passing you by on the other side of the aisle.

It is a very different world today since Jesus was asked this question.  He answered it by telling the well-known story of the Good Samaritan, who stopped and bound the wounds of the unknown traveler and had him cared for at the local inn at his expense.

Just before Christmas, the supermarkets were full of shoppers not social distancing at all and many did not wear masks.  The emphasis was to get what shopping they wanted as quickly as possible at the expense of other shoppers, especially the elderly and the vulnerable.  They had no time to heed restrictions of spreading the Coronavirus, as long as they got what they wanted.

We all need to be aware of our neighbors and what they need most.  At times of the Pandemic, there are so many who are selfish and cannot bring themselves to consider the greater good, which includes them.  Let’s hope they heed the warnings and stay behind their own front doors tonight.
